Symbolic new year’s day

I read ages ago the idea of doing everything you want to do in the year on new year’s day.

I’ve done this the last couple of years and I find it really sets my expectations and hopes for the year and it is a mini ritual of my own to mark the new year, especially as I don’t go out and celebrate.

The only thing I don’t do is swim (the pool is closed and I am not getting in the Estuary at this time of year) and see people, because I value solitude more than people, plus people have their own plans. So on New Year’s Day I will:

  • walk
  • have solitude
  • photograph things
  • read
  • write
  • yoga
  • pray
  • play the piano
  • play the flute
  • play the ukulele
  • code (my business development focus for this year)
  • spend time with my husband (probably playing a game)

That’s a lot to fit into one day, but it is a symbolic gesture so I don’t have to spend a lot of time on them.

What about you? What is important to you and what will you do on new years? If it is too late as you already have plans can you take time to imagine all the things you want to do this year?
