The secret toll of stress
I have always been a massive stress head.
I have learnt to deal with this through yoga, meditation, mindfulness and prayer. I have had to relearn how to react to things. I would love to say that I am an ultra chilled out zen person, but that really isn’t true, but I am a lot better than I used to be.
The other major thing I have done is cut out things which cause me stress, or at least make things as unstressful as possible. When I started to offer a ‘website in a box’ package for individuals and small businesses where I create a basic website and then teach them how to manage it themselves. I developed a really detailed guide which took them through the process and also really made it explicit what they could expect from me. I was much happier once I had put this in place.
I also started turning down work which I thought would be stressful. I have done a lot of event management work and to be frank I am really good at it, but it was such a stressful thing to do, so now I don’t offer that as a service.
All of these things take a lot of dedication to do, it is really easy to take another meeting this week, or take this project because they will pay me, but I have to remember the effect it has on me and that it is just not worth it.
What about you – are you aware of the toll that stress takes, on both your body and your mind? Not to mention your families…
